10 Oct How I joined the 4th
The Fourth Industrial Revolution
One of many reasons I decided to throw my lot in with DoughGetters Accounting was the fact that I could serve my clients from my home in Hermanus no matter where they are in the world. An unexpected benefit was that I had more time to do the things I love. If you know me you know I love, love to read. I try to read whenever I can and wherever I am. Now that I am a beneficiary of the 4th industrial revolution I am able to read more often and more deeply. I believe this will make me a better asset to my clients.
So what am I reading and why you should as well. It seems fitting as I am posting on the benefits of the 4th to tell you about the book I recently read about this. I know you are not like me and actually know what that means. I was the guy who stood at the parties nodding wisely as my friends waxed about machine learning and AI. If you are like me this short review is for you. I won’t do the a spoiler ’cause I know you are dying to read it for yourself! But here are my main takeouts.
What’s it called?
The Fourth Industrial Revolution – Klaus Schwab
What’s it about in a nutshell?
Every industrial revolution transforms the world. Think about the effect of the railroad, factories the telegraph, mass production. The previous revolutions transformed the economy, society, education and where we lived and how we navigated in our world. The shift was tectonic and fundamental. The difference between the previous revolutions and this one is that it is moving more rapidly, is happening on a larger scale and will have a more profound impact on life and work.
The power of technologies such as 3D printing and robots that can follow precise instructions will shatter entire systems. And fields that until now never interacted are joining forces to produce unimaginable results. This is truly the beginning of a new era.
What will you learn?
- New technologies that are emerging such as nanomaterial thats stronger than steel and thinner than a strand of hair.
- Why automation will actually increase the number of jobs and improve the economy
- How to FutureProof yourself.
My advise, find a business or career that is embracing the future, because the future is now. Thats a bit cheesy right? Yeah I thought so, doesn’t make it less true though. Until next time.
